Nowadays, different fields of tourism are being developed in Bulgaria. Many modern types of holidays have been brought here from Europe and the US. Apart from the ordinary mountain and ski holidays, beach holidays, village tourism, holiday types like golf tourism, fishing tourism, spa tourism and last, but not least, yachting tourism have been developed recently.

Professional and enthusiast yachting is being rapidly developed in Bulgaria. Numerous harbors are built on the coast of the Danube River, which can be used as wharves for yachts. The mountain reservoirs also provide the conditions needed for yachting. Many yachting clubs were created on the Black Sea coast and are used by both professionals and enthusiasts. Competitions are frequently held.
The European yachting competition in the fin category was held this year in Varna – Bulgaria’s sea capital.  There are perfect conditions for yachting on the bay of Varna. The races start from the Varna bay, in front of the port’s breakwater. The participants are 81, and the races – 10. The races are held during the summer season and mostly in the end of August. The event lasts a week. This is the most prestigious competition in this field that is held in Bulgaria. The last years we were hosts of world championships for youths (class “Boardsailing”, “470”) and veterans (“470”).
The jury consists of international referees like Peter Redjo, Professor Kamen Filyov and Iskra Yovkova. Peter Redjo is a world-famous specialist, who has been a referee in the most prestigious and expensive yachting competition in the world – America’s Cup.  The Bulgarian participants are six – Alexander Alexandrov, Michael Kopanov, Dimitar Vangelov, Stoil Stoilov, Atanas Petrov and George Yordanov. Bogomil Pehlivanov participated on the side of the USA in the competition. The category of the competition is “Open” and thus, Bogomil is one of the two non-European competitors.
All these famous Bulgarian names prove that yachting in Bulgaria has become a tradition. The competition is also a part of the list of fixtures of the International Yachting Federation for celebrating the anniversary of the official inclusion of the fin class in the competitive list sixty years ago (1949).
The competition also contributes to the good name of Bulgaria as a sea and tourist country.
