Which Island in the Caribbean has a Drive through Volcano?
I was waiting to book my holiday till around Christmas time this year, so that I could take the family on a nice holiday to the Caribbean. St Lucia was so great last year, that i have just now booked another one, so hopefully we will have just as much fun as we did last year. If i hadn’t had so much to do when i came back from my holiday, i would have written about this sooner. However now I am booking a holiday back to the same place, I thought I would share my experience with you.
We couldn’t wait to get to the hotel and chill out for the day, so we grabbed a taxi from the St Lucia international airport. We were staying at the Le Sport hotel and the rooms were gorgeous. St Lucia has a lovely forest that covers most of the island, and we went on two safaris through the jungle, other than that we spent a lot of our time at the beach.
I had read that there was a Volcano on the Island, but i hadn’t been told that we could visit it, or even drive through it. The Last time i went to a Volcano was in Greece, near the island of Kos. Ever heard of driving through a volcano, well here is where you can do it, the St Lucia Sulphur Springs. This Volcano is Dormant, and produces a very strong smell of sulphur; apparently if the smell disappears then the Volcano is getting ready to erupt!
There are some points in the crater, if you look carefully where even the Mud is boiling. After a tour guide fell into one of these boiling puddles, walking through the Volcano was called off and people were no longer allowed to go through on foot. After the Tour guide had his mishap (he didn’t die by the way) walking was no longer allowed, and you could only drive. It was an amazing experience, we got to see all the sulphur springs and the stunning colours splattered around the craters edge and basin. If the opportunity should ever arise, then should definitely try this. I am heading back there this year for more Volcano experience.
For St Lucia holidays, Barbados holidays and Christmas holidays, you should consider contacting a tour operator immediately.
