In the Tirol region of western Austria lies one of the most charming and laid back ski resorts you are ever likely to find in Europe. In Seefeld you won’t find high-rises – instead you will find lots of quaint buildings with wooden balconies and flower boxes. The quintessential Austria of postcards in other words.

When you want a holiday to rejuvenate your body and soul, Seefeld is the place to go. The town was designed more than 50 years ago to be a haven of tranquility and up to this day it lives up to that expectation. You will most likely only fully understand what I mean when you are sitting in the town center sipping a hot gluhwein while watching skiers from all across Europe strolling around as if today will last forever.

Should you be traveling with a baby, keep in mind that public breast feeding is nowadays socially unacceptable in Europe. Your best option is the buy an avent breast pump. This way you can store the milk in a container and use it later. Your baby will always have mother’s milk available, while you don’t have to be frowned upon for anti-social behavior.

Seefeld is not the place to go if you want to party throughout the night. That doesn’t mean there aren’t very good restaurants and during the skiing season it’s easy to find a cozy little place with live music. We once had dinner at a quaint little Austrian restaurant where they had a musician who played traditional Austrian music on a ibanez acoustic guitar. It fitted in perfectly with the ambiance of the whole little town.

The ski slopes in Seefeld are not meant for those who want a wild skiing experience: the town is rather known as a venue for cross-country skiing. In fact the town was the venue for cross-country events during two winter Olympic games held in the nearby city of Innsbruck.

It’s of course best to bring your own ski equipment, but should you end up in Seefeld without ski equipment, there are quite a number of ski shops where you can buy fine quality Alpine skiing equipment at acceptable prices. There are places where you can rent equipment as well. Whether to buy or sell is a decision you should make based on how often you plan to ski in future.

Seefeld is only a short drive away from Innsbruck to the east and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany to the north-west. Both these cities are well worth a day trip. The architecture is stunning and the natural surroundings even more so.
